Para los Modelos de Utilidad y Diseños Industriales, el Estado otorga al inventor un plazo de 10 años de protección.
En cuanto a los Derechos de Autor su protección se origina desde el momento de la creación de la Obra. El estado otorga protección de por vida del Autor, más cincuenta (50) años después de su muerte. Su registro es eminentemente facultativo.
Panamá es signataria de diversos convenios para la protección de Marcas y Patentes Comerciales e Industriales. Nuestro país también ha realizado los ajustes y modificaciones necesarias a su legislación para adecuarse a las tendencias modernas en esta materia, a través de la Ley No.35 de 1996.
